Microsoft and Xiaomi are forging ahead with a new partnership that will see a mutual benefit for both companies.
For Xiaomi, the company is coming into quite a few patents. Microsoft will be selling 1,500 of its patents to Xiaomi as part of a “long-term relationship” between the companies. That also includes a patent cross-licensing deal. And for Microsoft, it means that its Office quite of mobile apps, along with Skype, will be pre-loaded on Mi devices moving forward.
Beginning in September of this year, the Mi 5, Mi Max, Mi 4s, Redmi Note 3, and the Redmi 3 will come pre-loaded with Microsoft’s Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Skype.
A bold move for both companies, with Xiaomi getting plenty of access to patents to enhance its devices moving forward, and Microsoft getting its software on millions of devices.
