Today, Google made Android Wear 2.0 officially official, announcing that the new software would begin arriving on some current smartwatches in the coming weeks.
Google also officially introduced the LG Watch Sport and LG Watch Style, both of which were created with collaboration from Google. The announcement is actually light on details for both watches, outlining only a few key details.
The LG Watch Sport will be available in titanium and dark blue, and will feature a “high performance” elastomer strap. It will have GPS and NFC built-in, the latter of which will make Android Pay mobile payments possible. It will also have built-in cellular connectivity. It has a rotating power button that will let owners call up their favorite apps or activate Google Assistant. There are two additional physical buttons that activate Android Pay and Google Fit.
Meanwhile, the LG Watch Style will be available in rose gold, titanium, and silver. It will be compatible with snap-and-swap 18mm leather and silicone bands, and a rotating power button will let owners scroll through their stream, bring up the app launcher, and call up Google Assistant.
The LG Watch Sport will be available at AT&T, Verizon, and the Google Store beginning February 10. The LG Watch Style will be available from Best Buy and the Google Store on February 10 as well. The Watch Sport will also be available from carriers in Canada, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan, UAE and UK in the coming weeks.
AT&T and Verizon have revealed their pricing, at least, at the time of publication.
AT&T says the Watch Sport will cost $49.99 on a two-year agreement, as long as you also buy an LG V20 or G5 smartphone at the same time. AT&T is also making it available as a standalone device for $17.50 per month for 20 months.
Meanwhile, Verizon has the Watch Sport listed for $329.99 on a two-year agreement, or $379.99 at full retail price.
