If you’ve been wondering whether or not Google is cooking up a sequel to last year’s Pixel smartphone, wonder no more.
Rick Osterloh, Google’s SVP of Hardware, has confirmed that a new Pixel smartphone is coming. In an interview with AndroidPIT, Osterloh confirmed that the device will launch this year, but wouldn’t give any other info about the release.
Osterloh also confirmed that the Pixel 2 will emulate the original Pixel by being a higher-end device. “Pixel stays premium,” the exec said.
While it’s nice to get confirmation that a new Pixel is coming this year, this news doesn’t come a as a huge surprise. Most major device makers release a new flagship every year, just like Google has done the past several years with its Nexus and now Pixel phones. As for exactly when it’ll be released, don’t be surprised if the Pixel 2 arrives around early October, just like the original.
