Earlier this year, LeEco — the company formerly known as LeTV — released three new Android-based smartphones, none of which featured a 3.5mm headphone jack. The company has launched high-end devices in the past, including most recently with the Le Max 2, but they haven’t splashed down on the United States shores just yet.
That will change later this year, though, as LeEco has confirmed it plans to not only launch its video streaming service in the U.S., but its smartphones as well. The company’s director of PR revealed the news to PhoneScoop, saying that the handsets it launches will be unlocked. However, which ones are set to debut in the US is unknown.
As for the streaming content, LeEco says it’s in talks right now to secure content from live TV providers and recorded video content. The service will be a prominent feature on the smartphones, but they’ll also support other streaming content options as well.
By the end of 2016, LeEco plans on expanding its US-based workforce to 1,000, up from the 400 it has right now.
If LeEco launches the Le Max 2 here stateside, will you pick it up?
