If you’re interested in a new HTC flagship but were underwhelmed by the U Ultra, perhaps the HTC U will be up your alley.
The first images of the HTC U have been shared by Evan Blass, showing a black slab of a phone with a round rear camera housing paired with an LED flash. The side of the phone is home to power/lock and volume buttons, and around front we can see a second camera and what appears to be a fingerprint reader below the display.
Unfortunately, these leaked photos don’t show off Edge Sense, which is expected to be one of the highlight features of the HTC U. With it, you’ll reportedly be able to squeeze the sides of the phone or swipe the left or right sides to launch apps. That ought to make one-handed use easier, especially since the HTC U is rumored to be packing a 5.5-inch display.
Other rumored specs of the HTC U include a 2560×1440 screen resolution, Snapdragon 835 processor, 64GB/128GB storage options, and Android 7.1 Nougat running below HTC’s Sense 9 user interface. The HTC U is also expected to come equipped with a 12-megapixel rear camera with a Sony IMX362 sensor, while the front-facing camera will reportedly be a 16-megapixel shooter with an IMX351 sensor.
While the HTC U Ultra is no slouch, the HTC U looks like it ought to be a bit higher-end thanks to its Snapdragon 835 processor. And thanks to today’s leak, we’re getting an idea of what the phone will actually look like. The images suggest that the bezels on the HTC U won’t be as slim as new flagships from LG and Samsung, but a larger HTC U may not be quite as big a deal as you might expect if Edge Sense does make it easy to use the phone one-handed.
The HTC U is rumored to be set for a mid to late April reveal. What do you think of HTC’s next flagship?
