Ever since the Galaxy S4, Samsung has released a ruggedized version of its Android flagship called the Galaxy S Active, offering a device that can take a bit more punishment than the standard Galaxy S. And it sounds like that’ll be the case again with the Galaxy S8.
Samsung is working on a Galaxy S8 Active, reports SamMobile, which will feature the model number SM-G892A and is codenamed Cruiser. As with past Galaxy S Active phones, it’s said that the Galaxy S8 Active will be exclusive to AT&T.
With these Galaxy S Active phones, Samsung typically toughens up the body so that they can take a bit more punishment than the standard Galaxy S models. For example, while the Galaxy S7 had glass on its front and rear and a metal frame, the Galaxy S7 Active had a textured back for added grippiness and bumpers on the corners to protect from drops.
We’ll have to wait and see how Samsung toughens the Galaxy S8 Active, but it’ll be interesting to see what it looks like given the Galaxy S8’s tall display with curved edges. Stay tuned.
