Samsung Electronics has announced that 85 percent of Galaxy Note 7 devices within the US have been returned as part of the company’s full recall of the device. As the dust settles from the company’s discontinuation of the defective device, Samsung continues to work towards its goal of collecting all remaining devices on the market.
In an effort to encourage recalls, Samsung has announced that a software update will be released to all remaining Galaxy Note 7s in the coming days. This update will limit battery charging to 60 percent and incorporate a pop-up notification to return the phone whenever the user charges, reboots, or powers on the display of the device.
While Samsung is taking a heavy financial loss over the discontinuation of the Galaxy Note 7, the company has been able to retain a strong amount of customer loyalty. Samsung has previously stated that most customers are choosing to exchange the Galaxy Note 7 for a comparable Samsung device, such as the Galaxy S7. While consumers will likely remain somewhat wary of the brand for a time, Samsung seems to have built a strong enough reputation to weather the storm.
