Amazon’s days as an online retailer are from over, but the company has spent recent years focusing more on its manufacturing capabilities. The shift began with the launch of the Kindle Fire tablet, and the successful line remains a core brand in the present day. As Amazon continues to grow the Fire tablet line, it’s now placing importance on integrating its products together.
Today, Amazon introduced a refreshed Fire HD 10 tablet, the largest of Amazon’s offerings. Major hardware updates to the Fire HD 10 include a 10.1-inch widescreen 1080p display, a faster quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, 32/64GB storage plus a microSD card slot, and up to 10 hours of battery life.
Most important is the addition of Alexa hands-free assistant technology. This is the first time that Amazon has brought its Alexa voice assistant to a Fire tablet, and it seems likely that we’ll continue to see the technology in Fire tablets as we move forward. With the addition of Alexa, users can utilize easy voice commands to play music, set timers, dim smart lights, and much more.
Amazon is boasting a new starting price of $149.99, making it easier than ever to afford a 10-inch Fire tablet. The company is now accepting pre-orders for the Fire HD 10, with a release date of October 11.
It’s worth noting that Alexa will not come pre-loaded on the Fire HD 10, but will be added via an over-the-air software update. This update will begin rolling out on October 11, as well, so there is the possibility that your Fire HD 10 may not have Alexa ready when you initially receive it.
