Recently, it was reported that HTC was deliberating a variety of different options to help its business, including an outright sale of the company.
Now, Digitimes reports that HTC may be moving a bit forward with the selling option, at least in part. According to the report, HTC and Google have entered the last stages of talks in regards to HTC selling off its smartphone business to the search giant. The options that Google is considering include becoming a strategic partner with HTC as well as simply buying HTC’s smartphone business.
If the sale does go through, it will be solely focused on HTC’s smartphone efforts. It will reportedly not include the company’s Vive virtual reality ambitions.
HTC is one of those companies that has been around for so long it feels integral to the smartphone market as a whole. Seeing it consider a sale of this magnitude is certainly shocking, but, perhaps, not entirely surprising.
Do you currently own an HTC phone? If not, when’s the last time you did?
