When the Moto G4 Plus was being marketed ahead of its launch, Motorola pointed out that the device would receive not only an update to Android Nougat but also Android O (now known as Oreo).
Unfortunately, it looks like Motorola ran into some errors with the marketing back then, because according to the company, the Moto G series is meant to only get one major software upgrade. For the Moto G4 Plus, that meant it was supposed to see the update to Android Nougat and stop there.
When Motorola released their list of devices that would be getting the Android O upgrade, the Moto G4 Plus wasn’t on the list. Over on Reddit, some people posted their grievances, pointing out that Motorola promised that the Moto G4 Plus would get the Android Oreo upgrade, but now it looked like they wouldn’t be keeping that promise.
Now Motorola says that it will make things right:
“Since the time of posting this, we have learned of some errors in our marketing materials around Android O upgrades for moto g4 Plus. It’s our general practice for the moto g family to get one major OS upgrade per device, so it wasn’t originally planned for Android O. But it’s important to us we keep our promises, so in addition to the N upgrade it has already received, we will be upgrading moto g4 Plus to Android O. Because this is an unplanned upgrade, it will take some time to fit into our schedule, we’ll update our software upgrade page when we have more info.”
So Motorola is confirming now that the Moto G4 Plus is on the upgrade path to Android Oreo, but it may take a bit more time to send out when compared to the handsets that already made the list.
If you own a G4 Plus, are you happy with the upgrade plans?
