iRobot’s Roomba smart vacuum cleaners are a lot smarter than people give them credit for. They create pretty accurate maps of your house to more efficiently clean every single spot, while also allowing you to clean different rooms at different times.
The company has announced a partnership with Google, which begins with Google Assistant integration. You can now ask your Roomba to clean your house or specific rooms with your voice.
Future integration with the Roomba mapping system may include things like mapping exactly where your smart devices are, making setup and automation easier and smarter. The company doesn’t have any specific plans but future integration will come.
Of course, it’s bad enough that your vacuum knows the layout of your home, but Google knowing it too is another security concern. Thus, these new features will be opt-in and Google is promising not to use this information for ads or other services.
We’re seeing our homes get smarter and smarter, and it seems like this is the logical next step.
