Samsung has been making headlines for its upcoming foldable smartphone, but we’re also starting to hear rumors about 2019′s Galaxy S10 flagship. Some early details about the device have leaked out thanks to famed leaker Evan Blass, better known by his Twitter handle, @evleaks.
Most notably, Blass says that the Galaxy S10 will feature a “‘punch hole’ style selfie cam cutout.” This signals that Samsung will use the Infinity-O display it revealed last week in the Galaxy S10. This style has a circular cutout on the top right corner of the screen, similar to the ASUS Zenfone 6. If Samsung goes with this choice, it’ll be a bold move, as the design has been heavily chastised for its obtrusiveness.
Blass also notes that the Galaxy S10 will feature an in-display fingerprint scanner using ultrasonic technology, similar to the OnePlus 6T. The device will feature three rear cameras, including a standard shooter, a wide-angle lens, and a telephoto camera. Finally, Blass confirmed that the Galaxy S10 will launch with Android Pie featuring Samsung’s new One UI over top. One UI is simpler and cleaner than TouchWiz, and features support for new form factors like foldables, as well as support for increased multi-window apps.
We fully expect the Galaxy S10 to be a powerhouse, but Samsung may shoot itself in the foot if it uses the Infinity-O display.
What are your thoughts on these preliminary leaks? Are you a fan of the Infinity-O design?
