Google’s latest version of Material Design has been divisive to say the least. The extreme amounts of white in the newly updated apps is both grating on the eyes and awful for battery life (Google even said this themselves).
However, apps are still being updated with the crazy white theme. Some like Android Messages have gotten a dark theme, but Google Contacts has remained bright white.
Thankfully that’s now over, as Google has given the app a dark makeover. The latest v3.2 of the app now has a dark theme setting in the slide out menu. If you don’t see it, you’re still on the old 3.1 version of the app. The rollout seems to be staged as not everyone has the latest version yet, so be patient! You’ll be able to save your retinas when calling people soon.
