The rumor mill refuses to give up on the next family of high-end smartphones from Samsung, with the latest report detailing a special edition model that will apparently be packed to the gills with features.
The Wall Street Journal is reporting this week that Samsung is planning on launching a special edition Galaxy S10 variant in celebration of the Galaxy S family’s 10th anniversary. The device will not only offer up a huge display, but may also pack in a ton of cameras and even support the next major milestone for wireless connectivity. The flagship variant is known as the “Beyond X” internally, and it will have a 6.7-inch display.
For those keeping track, that means this device will have a bigger screen than what’s available on the Galaxy Note 9, which has a 6.4-inch display. And around back, the Beyond X will reportedly feature four cameras, with two more on the front. The other major addition will be support for 5G wireless networks.
The company is also investigating reverse wireless charging, a feature we saw recently in the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. This would allow the Beyond X to share its battery life with other devices that support wireless charging, which could make topping up another device pretty quick and easy.
Samsung’s special edition Beyond X will launch alongside the three other oft-rumored variants of the Galaxy S10. The base model is said to feature 64GB of built-in storage and a 5.8-inch display, while the high-end model, which is said to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor, will reportedly have a screen that measures in at 6.4 inches.
The latest report indicates Samsung is planning on announcing all four smartphones in mid-February. The three standard variants will launch first, and the Beyond X model will come at a later date. Samsung is apparently planning on staggering the launches so that the Beyond X can launch with 5G network coverage, which definitely makes sense.
Of course, this is not the first time that we’ve heard most of this. Just recently it was noted that the Galaxy S10 family may launch in green and yellow. And we’ve heard about a 5G variant of the Galaxy S10 for quite some time now.
Based on the rumors, will you be waiting for the Beyond X?
