The dual rear camera setup has been a popular feature on smartphones lately, but Samsung is one of the few companies that hasn’t really tried it. Experimentation is part of the development process, though, and it’s no secret that Samsung considered launching the Galaxy S8 with dual rear cameras. Last month, as noted by The Verge, Samsung executives said they couldn’t find “real value for it yet,” but they had to at least give it a try.
Now we’ve got the first photographic evidence that a design made it to the prototype stages. Thanks to Weibo leaker KK, we’ve got a first look at what a Galaxy S8 with two rear cameras would look like. The most obvious takeaway here is that a vertical lineup for the camera and the flash was also considered, but that it got scrapped.
Samsung probably hasn’t ruled out the possibility of launching a smartphone with a pair of cameras on the back at some point in the future, but for now, it looks like they’re okay waiting a bit longer.
What do you think of the rear design of this prototype? Do you prefer this over the final version?
